Physiatrists are physicians who specialize in physical medicine and rehabilitation, a medical specialty that deals with the evaluation and treatment of patients whose functional abilities have been impaired.
Physiatry is the medical specialty concerned with the medical treatment and rehabilitation of persons with variety of physical problems and associated disabilities. Those include general medical conditions, neurologic disorder such as stroke, amputation, spinal cord injury, acquired brain injury, arthritis, soft tissue injuries and musculoskeletal pain syndromes.

Most patients with acute and chronic neck and back pain do not know where to turn for medical advice. After failing to improve with conservative treatments (i.e. physiotherapy, chiropractic care, acupuncture, massage therapy) they are often referred on to a neurosurgeon for definitive management of their condition. Although some patients will benefit from surgery, the risks of surgery often outweigh the benefits. This lack of options leaves patients frustrated, confused and anxious.
Thankfully, most painful spine conditions can be managed with non-surgical care. At Kinetix, Interventional Pain and Spine assessments are provided by physicians from multiple specialties, including Physiatry, Anesthesiology, Pain Medicine and Emergency Medicine, all of whom are trained Interventional Pain Specialists.
